Sacred spaces

Time is the biggest gift you can give yourself. Time to connect with the essence of who you are. Create a sacred space in your home. Something as simple as lighting a candle, having flowers, essential oils, plants and anything which assists you to feel present and connected.

Place your meditation cushion in your sacred space and sit for a few minutes each day connecting to your breath and presence of mind.

Place your yoga mat in your sacred space, ready to go with any props you use for practice and get on your mat as often as you can, even if just for a few minutes. Here is also a place where perhaps you return each day to write in your journal. Writing in a journal is a magnificent practice, for it provides immense insight into our inner feelings and inner world, revealing who we are so we can set our future with intention and deep awareness.

A sacred space does not need to be fancy.

It’s the simplicity of gazing at a candle or lighting an organic incense with a bowl of tea. These are moments which connect us with divinity, serenity and peace. A state of balance.

When we feel more centered and more connected, life on Earth feels like a smooth ride.

If you don’t have a separate room, your sacred space can simply be a corner of your home or room—make it special and allow it to cultivate an energy of peace—it will spread its magic into other areas of your life.

Have you ever listened to Tibetan bells? The quality of the sound of the bells can lift up any spirit and space. I usually play Tibetan bells on the background during yoga practice or simply to uplift and clear the frequency of a space.

The above is an excerpt from my book Living Life In Light, A Yogi’s Journey. Chapter on Sacred Spaces.
